Modern data centers, especially those supporting cloud storage and distributed computing, rely heavily on optical interconnects. The reasons are many. Firstly, optical interconnects offer unparalleled speed to process vast amounts of data in real time. Secondly, they are energy efficient, because they do not generate significant heat like electrical interconnects.

Iridian Spectral Technologies, Ltd. has designed and manufactured optical filter solutions for long haul and metro-access fiber-optic telecom customers for nearly two decades. Iridian is now applying the same proven thin-film filter technology to address the growing needs for Datacom optical filtering, providing wavelength selectivity to DCI devices such as transceivers and tunable laser assemblies (TLA).

Most high power lasers have centro-symmetric distributions, often Gaussian or semi-Gaussian, with the power highest at the spot center and gradually decreasing toward the edges. This natural spot shape is often suboptimal in laser material processing, requiring shaping of the beam.

In broad terms, beam shaping is a process where a laser beam undergoes a re-configuration to more optimally distribute the beam shape for the particular process. Laser beam shapers belong to several families, such as laser beam homogenizers, laser beam splitters, and laser beam shapers.

Optical inter-satellite links operate through a transmission beam and a receiver mechanism. By employing infrared wavelengths for information transmission, these links enable the transfer of gigabytes per second, a crucial requirement for various applications that rely on uninterrupted connectivity.

Iridian Spectral Technologies is a global expert in optical filter design and production, with extensive experience working in space technology. Iridian’s filters are engineered to endure demanding aerospace conditions.

Tony Hallas presents another amazing deep space image! Here you can see “The Great Wall”, a section of the North American Nebula in the constellation Cygnus.

Tony captured this using Chroma Ha, OIII, and SII astronomy filters, as well as RGB filters for the stars.

Chroma Technology manufactures the highest quality astronomy filters with durable, sputtered, hard coatings using single substrates of the best glass, eliminating the need for laminations. All primary filter coatings are applied on the front surface and anti-reflection coatings on the rear surface to prevent ghosting and to maximize transmission.

Iridian Spectral Technologies is an international leader in filter design and manufacture especially for applications in the fields of fiber optic communications, biomedical optical spectroscopy, 3D entertainment, and aerospace.  Iridian draws on more than two decades of experience to provide:

Picosecond laser glass cutting is a technology revolutionizing the precision glass-cutting industry. The increasing demand for laser glass cutting for a variety of applications (from displays through cellular devices to structural glass) is pushing an expansion in the picosecond-laser, machine-builder business, due to the advantages of using ultra-short-pulsed lasers for smooth sidewalls and high throughput.

Read a short article highlighting the need for focal-beam shaping to achieve optimal results. By employing diffractive axicons or improved modified Bessel solutions, such as DeepCleave, picosecond-laser machine integrators can overcome limitations and enhance throughput and quality. ❂Fiber Optics

Philtec fiber optic sensors can make displacement measurements inside of mechanisms, machinery, and vacuum chambers. To gain access to the measurement locations, fiber optic cables may be connectorized for the probe tips to be separated from the electronics. In some complex applications, more than one joint may be required for the installation and removal of the sensor systems. An illustration shows sensor configurations with as many as four parts that have been made and are available for some of Philtec’s sensor products.

Photonis provides electro-optic solutions used in the detection and amplification of ions, electrons, and photons. These detectors and components have been designed for a wide range of scientific instruments used in space and research projects but also in cells and material analysis for life science or non-destructive testing.

Photonis’s range of ion transport solutions, based on patented LongLife™ Microchannel Plate technology, can increase ion throughput up to 1000X when compared to traditional solutions.
