CCD Detectors Enable Advanced X-Ray Emission Spectroscopy
CCD detectors from greateyes are enabling advanced X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) research to uncover potassium’s coordination environment and electronic properties. This study demonstrates the potential of XES as a powerful tool for characterizing potassium, critical in both biology and catalysis.
Researchers conducted XES measurements on potassium halides (KCl, KBr, KI), oxide-bound potassium salts (KNO₃, K₂CO₃), and potassium-promoted catalysts. These findings revealed energy shifts influenced by metal-ligand distances, unique transitions for oxide ligands, and distinct potassium behavior in catalysts. This research paves the way for deeper insights into potassium’s role as an electronic promoter.
The XES data were collected using a greateyes CCD detector on the von Hamos spectrometer at the PINK beamline (BESSY II), delivering exceptional resolution (0.8–1 eV) and precision. The 26 µm × 26 µm pixel size and 256 × 1024-pixel configuration of greateyes’s detectors were crucial for capturing the detailed spectral features.
The paper describing this study is entitled “Probing the Local Environment in Potassium Salts and Potassium-Promoted Catalysts by Potassium Valence-to-Core X-ray Emission Spectroscopy.”
