John’s talk, “Sputtered Coatings for Space-Based Optical Systems Including Gold Induced-Transmission Filters,” outlined how Chroma is advancing free-space optical (FSO) laser communications for satellite constellations, inter-satellite links, and space-ground connections by harnessing high-precision, ultra-durable sputtered coatings and gold-induced transmission filters.
Key highlights include:
- Optimized solar filters using sputtered silver or gold-based, induced-transmission designs that deliver over 90% transmission in the C-band, while reflecting solar and Earth radiation efficiently across all angles.
- Coatings engineered for high-precision, spectral control (including SWIR), full-spectrum blocking, polarization/phase management, and rugged durability essential for the demanding space environment.
