DOEs for Photovoltaic Cells
Lasers have been widely used for the production of traditional solar cells, such as PERC type PV cells. The laser is used to open the oxidation layers on the backside in what is known as the Laser Contact Opening (LCO) process, often employing top hat beam shaping to obtain a uniform ablation profile with fixed width.
In recent years, PERC solar cells are being replaced by higher efficiency alternatives such as IBC and TOPCon PV cells. These new cell architectures demand even higher accuracy in laser processing, and therefore demand excellent shaping that must account for all optics in the system, including scanners and focus lenses.
Holo/Or has many years of expertise in designing beam shaper DOEs to integrate into PV laser production systems, including offering detailed simulations, optimization and Zemax blackboxes, enabling customers to seamlessly integrate these top hat beam shapers into the laser system in the design phase.
