Expansion Microscopy Combined with Lattice Light-Sheet Microscopy
A recent article in optics.org highlights the combination of expansion microscopy (ExM) with lattice light-sheet microscopy (LLSM). This new technique (ExLLSM) allows researchers to visualise spatial relationships between proteins across millimetre-scale dimensions. It counteracts many of the limitations of optical microscopy, electron microscopy, and super-resolution microscopy and is making incredible inroads into understanding the complexity of the brain.
The research is a joint project between the two research groups: Ed Boyden at MIT, and Eric Betzig at the University of California, Berkeley and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Research Campus.
Laser Quantum products enable this new technique.
