Imaging in High-Energy-Density Matter Research by greateyes Camera
An exciting collaboration has developed between cutting-edge laser technology and high-energy ion beams in a groundbreaking study at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt, Germany. The study combines intense pulses of heavy ions from the SIS18 synchrotron with high-energy laser pulses from the PHELIX laser facility, enabling researchers to explore matter under extreme high-energy-density conditions.
A key component of this research is the use of the GE-VAC 2048 512 BI X-ray CCD camera from greateyes. This advanced imaging device plays a critical role in providing real-time X-ray diagnostics, enabling precise measurement of X-ray spectra during experiments. By helping researchers capture and analyze the emitted X-rays, this camera supports the development of next-generation diagnostics for groundbreaking experiments at the upcoming Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR).
The published paper detailing this research is entitled, “Platform for laser-driven X-ray diagnostics of heavy-ion heated extreme states of matter.”
GE-VAC In-Vacuum Cameras
Based on a unique platform concept, greateyes offers a portfolio of scientific in-vacuum cameras for imaging and spectroscopy in the VUV, EUV, soft and hard X-ray range up to 20 keV. They are fabricated in stainless steel or aluminum providing excellent vacuum compatibility.
A single additional flange integrates electrical and water cooling feedthroughs. Incoming photons are directly detected by the CCD sensor. No external controller is required to operate the detectors.
All greateyes cameras combine scientific CCD sensors with ultra-low noise electronics for optimal detection of weak signals. Select among different spectral sensitivities and sensor technologies to find the best solution for your imaging or spectroscopic application. The full-frame in-vacuum CCD cameras are cooled by multi-stage Peltier elements. The cameras provide a rich set of functionalities including flexible binning operation, various trigger and synchronization modes, software switchable gain, as well as temperature monitoring of the CCD sensor and the Peltier hot side.
