LIBS Unlocks New Insights in Urology
A recent publication demonstrated how Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) — using the ARYELLE spectrometer — can advance the clinical understanding of urinary stone composition.
By analyzing 122 calcium-based stones and integrating LIBS elemental data with clinical variables, the team achieved remarkable results. LIBS detected key trace elements such as magnesium and strontium in nearly all samples.
A machine learning model combining LIBS and clinical data achieved 94% accuracy in identifying recurrence-associated profiles. These insights may support better risk assessment and prevention strategies in urolithiasis management.
As the manufacturer of the ARYELLE echelle spectrometer, LTB Lasertechnik Berlin is proud to enable such pioneering research — showcasing how precise elemental analysis can enrich medical diagnostics.
For further reading, the publication is entitled, “Elemental composition analysis of calcium-based urinary stones via laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy for enhanced clinical insights.”
