Image of PHAROS and XUUS

Industrial-gradeย PHAROS from Light Conversion femtosecond laser paired with KMLabsโ€™s XUUSTM-5 high-harmonic-generation system produced a high flux, ultrastable, coherent EUV light with photon energies spanning in the range of 18โ€“62 eV.ย  Together these devices achieved flux levels up to 1013ย photons/s and repetition rates of up to 100ย kHzย โ€” performance levels that enable a host of scientific applications in an ultra-compact setup.

Fiberย cleavingย is an important technique in the area of fiber optics. A femtosecond laser-based scribing procedure using theย PHAROSย laser fromย Light Conversionย has been demonstrated for cleavingย silicaย optical fiber. The technique also has important potential advantages compared to laser cleaving based on melting.

Photo for quantum dots

A new class of quantum dots delivers a stable stream of single, spectrally tunable infrared photons under ambient conditions and at room temperature, unlike other single-photon emitters. This breakthrough opens a range of practical applications, including quantum communication, quantum metrology, medical imaging and diagnostics, and clandestine labeling.

PHAROSย lasers andย ORPHEUSย series of femtosecond optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs)ย fromย Light Conversionย were used for these ultrafastย spectroscopicย studies.

The latest article byย HoloOr, entitled โ€œSTED Simulation and Analysis by the Enhanced Geometrical Ray Tracing Methodโ€ was published inย Microscopy Todayย magazine byย Microscopy Society of America (Official)ย andย Cambridge University Press.

For more information, contact Holo/Or.

This article shows a simple, straightforward method for modeling a STED microscope using Zemax geometrical optics ray tracing principles, while still achieving a realistic spot size. This method is based on scattering models, and while it employs fast ray-tracing simulations, its output behavior is consistent with the real, diffractive behavior of a STED de-excitation spot. This approach can simplify the design of custom STED setups by proper modeling of the resolution performance.

This stunning image of the Rosette Nebula was captured over 3 nights in March at the Grand Mesa Observatory in Colorado by Terry Hancock.  The following narrow band optical filters fromย Chroma Technologyย were used to capture this image: Ha 5nm, OIII 5nm and SII 5nm.ย Chroma manufactures the highest qualityย astronomy filtersย with durable, sputtered hard coatings using single substrates of the best glass, eliminating the need for laminations.ย

Laser welding is a rapidly growing field, which is tightly bound with the e-mobility revolution, as laser welding of battery packs is a critical step in battery manufacturing. A split laser beam using aย diffractive beam splitterย is highly useful for laser welding, as multi-kW low cost multimode fiber lasers often have too much power to use in a single spot welding.

For more information, contact Holo/Or.

Typically, confocal microscopy utilizes wet-immersion objectives with magnification of X60 โ€“ X100. Typical laser beam diameters on the objective are ~6 mm, with a resulting diffraction limited spot size of less than 1 ยตm.

View fields are often larger than a hundred microns, requiring splitting angles of 50 mrad or more. These angles are easily achievable withย diffractive laser beam splitters from Holo/Or.

Image of vortex beam spiral phase plate

A typical laser source generates a near Gaussian beam profile with the maximum energy at the center and a moderate energy decay towards the edges. This intensity profile is not ideal in many applications, and so many research and development engineers seek beam shaping technologies to achieve their desired laser beam shape and intensity profile.

One such desired shape is a ring-like donut shape with controlled ring intensity and an energy hole in the center. This is the output shape of a vortex beam.

Holo/Orย offers a wide variety ofย vortex phase plate DOEs. To calculate the ring and hole diameter of the vortex plate, Holo/Or created anย optical vortex calculatorย to aid our customers in choosing the parts fitting their needs.
