OEM Pockels Cell Drivers Now Have a Heatsink Enclosure
OEM Tech has developed and tested a heatsink enclosure for their GaN Pockels cell drivers. This enables the drivers to function with a repetition rate increase of a factor of ten.
QBY-4001 and QBY-4010 are Pockels cell drivers by OEM Tech, based on GaN transistors. These transistors provide bipolar voltage pulses (3–4 ns rise/fall) on the outputs to control the birefringence of an electro-optical crystal to change the polarization state of light passing through.
The QBY-4001 is very compact model with fast switch to obtain short pulses starting from 10 ns. This is an air cooled device with dimensions of 80x50x20 mm. Its maximum repetition rate is 1 kHz @4kV.
The QBY-4010 contains cooling fans, which make it possible to increase the maximum repetition rate by ten times (10 kHz @4kV). However the dimension of the system are slightly greater (80x71x28 mm).
There are also QBY-BT GaN Pockels cell drivers available in a case with a comfortable user interface.
It is possible to adjust pulse amplitude by analog input signal. Pulse repetition rate and width are adjusted by external TTL signals, J1 and J2. Output voltage is up to 4 kV (bipolar). The maximum repetition rate strongly depends on the selected output voltage value and on load capacitance. The GaN Pockels cell drivers are very sensitive to load capacitance. To keep their performance close to datasheet values, one needs to minimize the load capacitance, numbers less than 5 pF are recommended.
The module requires a +24 V DC power supply and a pulse generator to set an operating frequency and pulse width (10–1000 ns). The module operates in set-reset scheme when a base voltage level equals to zero. A pulse generator can set non-periodic pulses when required.

- Control of laser regenerative amplifiers
