Photonis Detectors Are Headed to the Moon!
Photonis, a leading brand of Exosens, is supporting NASA’s Artemis program with their Micro Pore Optics (MPOs) and Microchannel Plates (MCPs). These advanced detectors were integral to the development of the X-ray imaging instrument at Boston University, which was provided to NASA and named Lunar Environment Heliospheric X-ray Imager (LEXI).
Launched on January 15th aboard Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Lander from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, LEXI will capture the first global images of Earth’s magnetosphere from the moon’s surface. This critical magnetic shield protects our planet from solar radiation. By studying its interaction with the sun’s solar wind, LEXI will provide invaluable insights for ensuring astronaut safety during future Artemis missions.
Photonis is thrilled to contribute to this historic program. Learn more about LEXI.
