Research at the Technion Contradicts 80-Year-Old Prediction
A study by Ido Kaminer of the Technion showed that quantum mechanics is important in understanding Chernkov radiation. This type of radiation causes nuclear reactors to glow. The discovery contradicts the statement of the physicist Lev Landau that there is no value in such a study. Professor Kaminer has settled a scientific dispute between two of the greatest Russian physicists of the 20th century, which emerged more than 80 years ago. In addition, this research unusually brings together the theory of special relativity and quantum mechanics.
