Study on the Importance of Identifying Metallic Contaminants
A recent study emphasizes the importance of Technical Cleanliness Analysis (TCA) in industries such as automotive and aerospace, where identifying metallic contaminants in metal alloys is crucial for quality control. The published paper documenting this study is entitled, “LIBS as a fast and reliable alternative to µXRF and SEM–EDX for quantitative analysis of aluminium alloy particles in technical cleanliness analysis.”
This paper discusses the challenges of identifying these contaminants from small samples and the need for accurate characterization methods. It compares various analytical techniques and highlights Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) as an advantageous method for quantitative analysis of aluminum alloy particles, pointing out this techniques rapid analysis capabilities and sensitivity to light elements.
The Coralis system from LTB Lasertechnik Berlin used for this study is specifically mentioned as a reliable LIBS instrument for the analysis of aluminum alloy particles, providing fast and efficient measurements in ambient conditions, which is advantageous over traditional methods. The Coralis system provides not only LIBS for elemental analysis, but also has the capability for Raman spectroscopy to obtain information on the chemical composition of a sample. This combination allows for a more comprehensive and detailed analysis of the sample.
