Two Speakers from ID Quantique at Quantum 2020 Conference
Organized by the Institute of Physics and IOP Publishing, in partnership with the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the Quantum 2020 conference is bringing together the international quantum science community to learn, share, and collaborate on the latest research and emerging areas of high interest.
Taking place over four days from Monday 19 to Thursday 22 October 2020, this virtual event brings together early career and established researchers from universities, industry, and government worldwide. The online format will have several benefits for participants, including improved accessibility, less personal disruption and an overall reduction in the carbon footprint for the conference.
The scientific program for Quantum 2020 is being guided by an international Advisory Committee made up of leading researchers from around the world.

Presentation by ID Quantique
The VP of Research and Technology at ID Quantique Félix Bussières is giving a talk on Enhancing quantum communication and computing, fluorescence measurements, LIDAR and IC inspection with single-photon detection.
- Date: Tuesday 20 October 2020
- Time: 6:00 to 6:30 PM (CET)
Topic Outline
IDQ empowers researchers in advancing the frontiers of single-photon science and applications. We will present a review of state-of-the-art experiments using time resolved single-photon detection based on SNSPDs, SPADs and Time-Tagging electronics to achieve unprecedented results in quantum communication, single-photon OTDRs, range finding and Lidar as well as fluorescence measurements and IC Inspection.
Speaker Profile
Félix obtained his PhD in Physics from the Université de Montréal. He then worked as a senior researcher at the University of Geneva, where he conducted research in quantum technologies. In particular, he played a key role in developing high-performance superconducting detectors. After joining IDQ in 2016, he took the superconducting detector technology from a prototype to a successful product line for research laboratories, as well as a partnership with Ariane Group to develop cutting-edge equipment dedicated to the upcoming Ariane6 commercial space launcher. He now leads several innovation activities related to the development of single-photon detectors, quantum random number generators and quantum key distribution.
ID Quantique Panel Session: Quantum Technology and Industry
Co-founder of ID Quantique Nicolas Gisin will be part of the special panel session on “Quantum Technology and Industry.”
- Date: Wednesday 21 October 2020
- Time: 9:00 to 11:00PM (CET)
Speaker Profile
Nicolas Gisin is a Swiss physicist and professor at the University of Geneva working on quantum information and communication, as well as on the foundations of quantum mechanics. His work includes both experimental and theoretical physics. He contributed significant work on the fields of experimental quantum cryptography and long-distance quantum communication in standard telecom optical fibres. As a theoretician, Gisin has brought deep insights into quantum mechanics.
He is also the first to develop quantum information technology to such a level that it was for the first time possible to take it out of the lab and into the commercial world: he co-founded ID Quantique, a spin-off company which quickly developed into one of the world leaders in the field of quantum information and communication technologies.
